The Start of Individual Design

This week marks the transition from collective exploration to individual concept development within our pavilion design project. After having a successful review with Jason and Rodney, we are now taking all of the information and wants from from the city to design our own concept pavilions. The move toward individual concept design represents an important step in the architectural process. It requires balancing creativity with an awareness of what the client wants to see, transforming abstract ideas into realistic strategies that can eventually be tested through model making if approved later on.

This stage also encourages critical reflection. By working individually, we must articulate our intentions more intentionally and anticipate how the pavilion might perform within its context. The exercise not only helps us form a way of thinking, but also sets the stage for iterative critique, where ideas will be refined with the help of our classmates and professor.

Ultimately, the beginning of concept design is less about final answers and more about creating an idea that could be capitalized on later. Each pavilion will be a unique study of the site combined with the needs of the program, contributing to the larger conversation of how this pavilion can help create a better space for the community it resides in.
