Happy Leap Day!
This semester, I am partnering with the Charleston Parks Conservancy to assist with the future expansion of Mulberry Pond Park. The 5-acre site in West Ashley is home to two ponds on either side of Mulberry Street as well as three prior Clemson Architecture + Community Build projects: Spring 2021–Mulberry Pond Crossing, Fall 2021–Ardmore and Sherwood Park Pavilion, Spring 2023–Ardmore Bridge.
Each of these projects have catalyzed the city’s investment into this beautiful site.
Currently, the addition of a playground is underway. Following the playground, later this spring the Charleston Parks Conservancy will begin planting an edible forest, which will host a variety of edible plants and fruit trees. The Conservancy is also teaming up with Clemson’s Master Rain Gardner Extension services to install a rain garden resting north of the Ardmore and Sherwood Park Pavilion, which will utilize various plants’ capabilities to trap sediment and metals from stormwater, absorb water and nutrients through their roots, and improve the downstream water quality.
In the meantime, I am coming up with a Maintenance Plan for the Ardmore and Sherwood Park Pavilion’s green roof as well as the design for a new tool shed which will be located along the edible forest.
I’m excited to share the progress of these developments over the upcoming months!
