Post first meeting with the council from Dolphin Architects, the Sea Islands Conservancy and the Gullah Geechee Chamber of Commerce representative Cory, we started site plan iterations for where the best locations for our stands would be. Some considerations driving these plans being visibility from the street/entrance, incorporation into nature and accessibility. With 3-5 iterations per person we were able to see what the general consensus of the class is as far as locations and split into 3 teams to further develop each location concept.
This is a crucial step prior to starting the actual design of the sweetgrass basket stands to determine how many stands are best, passive heating/cooling strategies necessary and how orientation might effect design for visibility and accessibility.
Besides studio, this past weekend we received a few inches of snow, a rare occurrence here in the south. We’re all enjoying the this infrequent weather before returning to studio to keep developing our site!
