Let the Charrettes Continue!

During our last studio session, the team sat down and defined some program elements that we may want to consider in the design of the garden structure at Edith L. Frierson Elementary. Understanding the school’s needs and what the structure will be used for is vital in creating a functional space for all to use.

In our discussion, we decided that each team should at minimum consider storage, seating, teaching areas, cleaning areas for the garden, a greenhouse, the memorial bench, and solar power. While these are our main focus, each design team will interpret these elements in their own unique way.

Today we are kicking off the week with another round of charrettes based off the work each team dived into over the weekend. As each design begins to take shape, we are focusing in on program, how the space is organized, location of the structure in regards to the garden beds and other site related elements, weather conditions, and what the experience should be like for teachers, students, parents, and community members.

Stay tuned for a deeper look into how each design is progressing as we prep for our Small Group Design Review on Monday, February 14th, 2022!
