And we’re here… the climax, the big reveal, the whole shebang. The elusive Community Review is happening!
I bring this blog post to you the night before the presentation so I have no idea what happens Friday(Tyler will tell you Monday I’m sure), but as you read this we may be in the midst of presenting to The Conservancy of the Sea Islands. With 13 interpretations of the sweet grass basket stands we’re sure to at least land within the ballpark of the final design (here’s to hoping).
You’ve seen the build up towards the review in the last few posts, and seeing as I’m no prophet about what feedback we’ll receive, let’s discuss what else is going on outside of studio. Many of you may know– if you’re a former A+CB student– that we have Community 1:1 class. I was fortunate and got partnered with the MARSH Project. On Monday I got to help pick up trash along the future Low Line development, learning quite a lot about the area and challenges of planning/starting construction(I’m from Houston we don’t have anything like this). Gotta say, it was nice walking around areas I didn’t think people were allowed to go. In addition to our non-profit partnership we have book club. We’re currently reading, ‘The Speed of Trust’. Frankly, I enjoy it. David keeps telling everyone that it should only take you 3-4 hours to read the 120 some odd pages, but he doesn’t know that I read at a 3rd grade level so I think I’m clocking in at 6-7 hours. Still though, its a pleasant surprise to read a book at such a fast pace; I’m proud of everyone and excited for the remaining 2 books.
Lastly, Nolan, Nate and I are taking the Historic Structures Report elective. Our semester long project is analyzing and documenting a house in Summerton, so that we can create a Historic Structures Report(shocking). Friday morning the three of us are driving up to Summerton to tour the house, take photos, and get dimensions so we can create drawings. Then we have to book it back to the Cigar Factory in order to give our presentation. Hopefully there’s no traffic.
See y’all on the 25th when I get to post again!
