Shop Days!

We are well into the process of shop construction for the Old Towne Creek Donor Wall! This has been a great experience, learning our way around the shop in the cigar factory and the making and usage of shop drawings. I have enjoyed seeing how things worked and didn't work in the shop drawings that we made for this project, as it will help us create more helpful shop drawings for the Plymouth Park pavilion. We have also learned how operations work in the shop - what to do first, second, etc. - and have been able to adjust to work more efficiently and/or work better with each other. So far, my favorite things to do have been staining and sanding. We have all had the chance to try everything that we have done so far, which is really fun because we get to use tools that we have never used before. One highlight for the girls was wearing headphones while planing the wood because they muffled some of the rock music and the compressed air gun 🙂

At this point, both of the beams are done, the rafters are made and stained, and progress has started on the rest of the structure. Things are coming together, and we should make it out to the site today to transport some of the completed pieces. I am excited to see the rest of this process. It is a great sneak peak into what our Plymouth Park project construction will look like soon!

...

Last week, my mom was able to visit for a few days! This meant that I got to explore new parts of Charleston and Mount Pleasant. We discovered Grimaldi's Pizza, Harken Cafe (which Colin suggested a few days ago in his post), Kaminsky's Cafe, and Three Girls On Spring. Charleston has so much to offer, it is difficult to make it everywhere! This trip was a much needed push to try things outside my normal routine. All of these restaurants were incredible! Three Girls On Spring was especially surprising, as it is a vegan and vegetarian restaurant, so everything is made differently than you would expect. I bought some cannoli dip to take home and have been loving it, despite not really knowing what it is made of. Overall, my first semester in Charleston is flying by and I can not believe that spring break is next week!
