Ready, Set, BRIDGE!

And just like that, the ardmore bridge is set in place..

We had an early start today meeting on site at 7:30 in the morning. We met with city employees who were operating a huge crane. Since the foundation and formwork had already been set, the only thing left to do was place the bridge. It was divided into 3 separate parts for transportation, so the next challenge was combining these parts to form one continuous structure.

As the crane lowered each section where it belonged, we all worked together to guide it into place. We were confronted with our first challenge when the second bridge section was hoisted into place. We realized it was nearly impossible for the bridge pieces to line up in order to make the connection. We ended up grinding and bending metal pieces on the spot until it fit just right. Once we were able to finally slide the bolts into place we knew the two pieces were connected.

We spent the rest of the day tweaking portions of the bridge to ensure it was a straight path and eventually made the connection into the concrete foundation pads. Before long we were able to lift the floor plates into place and the ardmore bridge became walkable!
