Septic Systems!

Nine preliminary plans have led us to one ultimate commercial kitchen design and Studio V is now incorporating a few last minute details. We had no idea what was in store when began researching the DHEC regulations for on-site wastewater systems, but, as it turns out, there’s a lot of research and strategy that goes into the placement of a septic tank.

For instance, according to DHEC codes, we need to pay close attention to the proximity of our septic system to nearby property lines, buildings, driveways, drainage ditches, etc., if we want to receive a permit for construction. We realized early on that our site plan was going to need a bit of extra work, but after factoring in the slope of our site, circulation, and which buildings would need access to the system, our problems started to work themselves out. We’ve now landed on a plan that appears to fit DHEC criteria and, as Wednesday’s review rapidly approaches, it’s nice to look back and realize how much ground we’ve covered in such a short amount of time.
