Hello, again!
Somehow I am always reporting on the day of a big review. Nevertheless, we’ve made it. After designing our own concepts and presenting them to the Conservancy, we now present to them our small group designs. As I’m sure you’ve seen, the models have been going up and final touches on plans and diagrams have been made.
My group has been working on “Mega roof with multiple structures”…It’s been fun!
We wanted to incorporate materials that we hadn’t really seen on any of the past projects, for example twinwall polycarbonate sheets to make translucent doors and steel rods/cables to form our truss. This way we could really see if David knows his stuff. He does! We also really wanted to utilize a boardwalk, or less fancily ‘a deck’, to create the sense that you’re walking amongst nature while not having to get muddy. Another key feature of our design are the operable walls. Each wall of the market stands serves a different purpose. One wall folds out as doors or to create one large mega stall, another acts as shelves and a table, another a window and shelf, and lastly a garage door of sorts to hang merchandise from.
Our biggest obstacle was deciding to curve our building, because we noticed how the curve allowed us to integrate the area between our building and the parking lot as a gathering space. The curve essentially hugs this gathering space, increasing the interaction and functionality of the pavilion.
Enough about our project… Today the class presents our 4 designs to the Conservancy. We’ll receive further feedback to give us the final push towards the project that suits their needs. We’ll come together as a class to design (hopefully) the final design. With the last two weeks behind us, I hope we hear the best news any architecture student can get after this presentation… “You guys can have Friday studio off!”
