Mood Board Mapping

This week in studio has been all about dissecting our small group designs in order to come up with a new collective design for the Plymouth Park structure. After taking on individual sketching earlier in the week, the class came together to pin up our sketches and create a mood board with images that inspire us. The inspiration images took many shapes; some images were about materiality, some highlighted structure, and others were focused on general vibes.

Following Community 1:1, a group of us decided to work on adding ideas and thoughts to the mood board. We began by naming the five senses and creating lists on the white board of things that relate to each sense that might happen at Plymouth Park, such as seeing the tree canopy, feeling the breeze, and hearing kids playing. These ideas helped us to think about how we could curate our structure in support of some of these items, and figure out what “vibe” we wanted to bring to the park.

Five senses list & narrative curation

These exercises are a fun way for us to think more intentionally about the way we design, but they’re also helping us to write the narrative of our structure in order to create a design that truly fits in the park.
