Small Group Preperation

Workload amongst small groups is ramping up this week in preparation for our presentations on Friday, where we will discuss each of our ideas with the city for our new gazebo designs. Three different iterations of design ideas were shared amongst the class today, stemming from the three groups the class has been split into. One group showed a design which seemed to be inspired by that of a classic gazebo you’d see at a park or in someone’s backyard; a classic circular design with elegant curves and a pointed roof. Another group showed multiple iterations of a small pavilion with large intersecting support columns, which created an “X” pattern to support a butterfly roof designed to drain water down the center. The third group designed a large and long pavilion with two separate private gathering areas and a roof which curved and bent to match the pathway between spaces, creating an interesting facade.

After displaying each project, each group offered advice to each other in preparation for the presentation this coming Friday. All groups must fill out two poster boards and create physical models to present to the city, in hopes to receive preferences and criticism that will allow all of us to begin designing this gazebo / pavilion as one team the following week.
