Intro to Craft x Erica, Raechel, Carter

This week in ITC we are starting to get our hands dirty with the clay! I am working with Raechel and Carter this semester for the project and so far we are having lots of fun experimenting. The basic premise of the project for mid terms is a repeatable object that interlocks in some way. We have chosen to use the extruder to form our pieces use a method of stacking. Our inspiration board is below.

We originally were going to extrude two cylinders, one with a slightly smaller radius, and attach them together to make sort of like a lego piece. Instead we have developed that further to create a double wall extruded system that we can cut the outside layer off on the top and the inside layer out in the bottom. We are now waiting for our 3d printed extruder plate to finish so we can test it out! A sketch of our design below.

We did laser cut the extrusion plate out of acrylic but realized we needed attachment arms – so that is why Matt is 3d printing it for us 🙂

We did however extrude a single cylinder today for fun and testing.

Hope to update soon with a successful project!!
