Over the past few days, we have been slowly getting prepared for the building of our pavilion. In order to be efficient and organized we started our class Friday by cleaning up the woodshop. There have been multiple projects taking place in the shop so it was pretty messy. Everyone jumped in to help put tools back in their desired location, sweep and dust, tidy up our formwork workspace, and declutter our wood rack.
Since we have the wood for our pavilion coming in, hopefully, this week, clearing a space to put it was a top priority during this cleaning. Mia and Andre transformed this space in less than an hour! They did such a good job! Now we have all this space to place more wood!
Since we will soon be starting to work on another piece of our project we wanted to complete the formwork for our piers this weekend and we did just that! Well, all but three pieces that need to be screwed on but other than that it’s all done! The way our team came together to work on this was amazing! It’s not ideal to have to be in the woodshop for hours on the weekend after being there all week but our group makes the most of it! Olivia is our DJ and always plays great music while William and Peyton constantly show off their dance moves. Here’s a little sneak peak of Peyton’s dance moves.
We had two teams working to complete each formwork this weekend. Majority of our pieces were cut so it was quick to assemble however there were a few mistakes which led to having to recut some pieces but it worked out in the end. I am so proud of how well my teammates assembled these. They were quick to learn the shop drawings and got right to work. I really like that nobody is afraid to ask questions or ask for help and everyone is willing to jump in where needed. This is the most complicated part of the project and being 90% done with it is such a great feeling. I made sure to capture pictures of each set of formwork along with the teams in action.

Lastly, we were able to attach a temporary 6×6 post to our formwork which will allow for the perfect fit of our columns for the pavilion! Since our piers will be concrete we had to think of strategic ways to create voids in the form that will support the rest of the framing. All in all, I think it was a very productive weekend!
Thank you for reading 🙂 Stay tuned for more!
