Persevering Through the Problems

As we come back from Fall Break we’ve hit some snags on our pavilion project: waiting for permits.  Now even though we can’t yet break ground that doesn’t mean we twiddle our thumbs waiting for something to get done. On our first day back we had some crews put together some more sheets for permitting and another to tally a final count for our lumber. One team was tasked with cleaning up the woodshop so that we could all work on our ITC projects mentioned in the last blog, considering they’ll be due the day this blog posts. There’s lots of amazing unique designs both in the laminated timber section and the casting section, and they’re a day away from being fully complete!

The woodshop is buzzing with activity as everyone makes the last preparations to present their designs at the review. However, not everything’s all butterflies and rainbows on this front either. Even in ITC we’re running into problems, but we are all persevering through them, because what is community build for if not for finding solutions to problems?

Formwork stuck in your vase? Hack, slash and burn it right out! No piece of wood could possibly be any more stubborn than us architecture students.

Concrete planter split right down the middle? Glue that sucker right back together with some mortar.

Although these may not be ideal situations, it’s always important to stay resilient, even when things aren’t going your way. We all have hit a snag here or there but that should never stop us. Even though we may go another week without breaking ground on our site, we’ll be in the woodshop this weekend preparing our formwork for the concrete pier pours. There’s always something to be done, and as long we keep a cool head and work together, we’ll accomplish it. In the meantime, look forward to all the beautiful stairs, planters, and vases that’ll be presented for ITC, and pray they all make it there in one piece.
