Eye Tee Cee. It’s one of our courses, ITC (Intro to Craft), and it saw an influx of students working diligently and vigorously on our projects over our Fall Break. Typically, Fall Break is a time to relax, regroup and get our minds right for the remainder of the semester. Not us though (well, some did). But for the most part, some students were working through the challenges of creating circular staircases made of laminated wood, while others others were working through and overcoming challenges dealing with creating vases/planters through casting.
Students creating the staircases worked in groups, where they designed, scaled and meticulously constructed their circular staircases, each group creating their own design for their staircase. The students also created similar formwork that helped create certain elements of their staircase. Students creating the vases/planters also worked tirelessly and meticulously, constructing formwork and molds to hold their casting, while also having to mix together the necessary ingredients to create the materials that they used for their vases/planters. Some materials included rammed earth, timber-crete, concrete, resin, plaster as well as other materials. This project definitely tested the patience of the students, but is a very informative build off of our previous project. We’re now just waiting for our projects to be done so that we can breathe for a couple days before the start of our next Eye Tee Cee project.
