Bringing the Drawings to Life

As the week comes to an end, the Frierson group is working to execute the prefabricated elements for the counter, bench, and door handles. Because of the long commute to the site, we are staying in the shop this week to precut and weld as many pieces as possible. It is crucial we start pre-assembling the pieces for effective execution this weekend.

We split into 2 groups: Welders and Wood Assembly.

The wood group precut all the pieces needed to assemble the bench and counter, and today we are working on assembling the legs and cutting the angles, which have to precisely match the ones on site. Instead of going off the as-built measurements, we are cutting the pieces with the angles 3-4″ longer, just to make sure we get a tight fit on site.

The welding group has spent all week learning and practicing welding. Today, the group learned how to use the steel bandsaw for effective precise cuts. This group practiced over and over until their welds were clean, as for me, I didn’t do so well.

We are all diligently working to prepare for this Sunday on-site. We plan to spend 8 hours, in hopes to complete this project by the 21st, in time for the grand reveal.
