After wrapping up my internship with Liollio Architecture for the semester, I have decided to make the most of my mornings. Knowing how hectic the end of a semester can be, I wanted to make myself more available in the morning for my professor and classmates. One of my mornings I had attended an OAC meeting and site walk for the office. This was only my second time attending one of these meetings but so far it seems to be a brief meeting addressing any issues during construction between all the parties. While there was a lot said and its hard to keep track of every comment, essentially it was a fluent conversation where each discipline was updating the rest of the group with progress on site. It seemed that the discussion from our end simply involved any updates from the clients as well as updating and explaining any new shop drawings or detail specifications.
Outside of my internship and community build, I have spent some time volunteering for my Non-profit organization, “Cuisine Rescue.” The founder, Chuck Smiley, is a retired engineer and veteran who spends his retirement saving and relocating wasted food. There is such an excess amount of food which is being thrown out and in most cases there is no way to avoid it. However, Chuck has reached out to several restaurants, caterers, and grocery stores in search of taking their wasted food and donating it to local non-profits. In the mornings I have volunteered to pick up his food for him and drive it to which ever non-profit or homeless shelter asked for food. Tuesday I went to Trader Joes and donated it to a nonprofit and two churches, amor healing kitchen, Trinity Church, and Coastal Community Church. Wednesday I went to Blondie’s Bagels and donated it to Aldersgate church and F.E.D.U.P. I not only volunteered just to help take pictures to use for his website, but also to meet someone of the amazing people who help distribute our rescued food. Additionally in my spare time I have helped my classmate Kevin, with his non-profit organization Katie’s Krops.
After wrapping up a day of class discussion, organizing and working on the woodshop, some of our class attended our first Charleston Riverdogs game! What a great day it was too with gray skies, rain, and thunder…
