The team spent the last two days on a footbridge that will be used to cross the drainage ditch on the north end of our site. Solving this issue was the last piece needed to connect Mulberry Street and the surrounding neighborhood to the West Ashley Bikeway! Much like our larger bridge, we wanted to ensure the longevity of the structure. We started by excavating several inches of the site in order to make sure the decking will sit flush with the future concrete sidewalk. Using an auger, we dug nearly 2 feet below the surface in each of the four corners to reinforce the joist system with 6×6 posts, which were also set in concrete. Although the finished structure looks unassuming, it was designed with the intent to be a long lasting and integral piece of our project!
