DESIGN+BUILD PROJECTS BY CLEMSON COMMUNITY BUILD
Workload amongst small groups is ramping up this week in preparation for our presentations on Friday, where we will discuss each of our ideas with the city for our new gazebo designs. Three different iterations of design ideas were shared amongst the class today, stemming from the three groups the class has been split into. [...]
The last few days have been anything but ordinary. Watching the city of Charleston reopen after the snow is an interesting experience, especially having grown up in the Midwest, where snow is a normal occurrence. Something that I have never seen before though is snow on the beach! I got to experience snow on the [...]
Something about a Palmetto amid snow in an empty parking lot.. Looking forward to the coming weeks distilling down thoughts and ideas for our Plymouth Park Pavilion structure. Many different ideas being thrown around, but I think the common theme in the group is duality in architecture - elements that are convertible or that serve [...]
As many of you know, there is supposed to be a major cold front moving through Charleston within the next 48 hours. One that can bring many people back to the snowfall of January 2018. To kick off the semester, the new Community-Build studio spent the last week exploring our site at Plymouth Park and the city of Charleston as a whole to understand the entire context of where we’ll all be working and building. Located in the Riverland Terrace community, Plymouth Park serves as a local gathering point with [...]
This week marked a significant milestone in our community build project: we completed the foundation work! This step is essential in any construction project, setting the groundwork—quite literally—for everything that will be built on top. Here’s a look at the process we followed and what it took to bring this foundation to life. 1. Excavation [...]
Mondays and Thursdays are non-studio days so I thought I would show what a day outside of studio looks like. My day started working on a map for my assistantship that shows the units per acre density of the Charleston peninsula. It was a rainy and gloomy day so for sketching class Carter and I [...]
