Welding 101

This week, we are getting into some super exciting things! We’re shifting from the digital realm to physical fabrication. Yesterday we were learning how to weld and do some metal working. I have always wanted to learn so this is very exciting! David started by getting us aquainted with some of the basic metal working power tools and workstations, explaining the fundamentals of using each tool as well as important safety requirements. After a few demonstrations, David set us free to practice. We each took turns practicing welding, cutting, and grinding some scrap steel angles. David said the women in the class are usually better welders than the men since they are generally more skilled at working with their fingers with delicate touches. Hopefully that will stay true this year!
