Getting Ready for Wednesday’s Presentation

I’m working with Kaden and Kylee, and we’re putting the final touches on our design. Our project focuses on creating a boardwalk with sweet grass basket stands, all housed under a single continuous roof. The overall concept in our design has come together really well, but the roof has definitely been the most challenging part. Even though it’s been difficult to figure out, it’s been a good challenge that’s pushed all of us to think more creatively and learn more about structure and design.

Concept Sketches

We started the design process by looking at precedents together and studying similar boardwalk and pavilion projects. From there, we each created our own sketches inspired by what we liked. After that, we came together and combined our ideas into one unified design. It was really helpful to see everyone’s different perspectives before narrowing it down into a single concept.

Roof Sketches

The roof has been the most complex part of the project so far. We’ve been exploring different structural systems to find one that supports our concept while remaining functional. Our goal is to create a roof that provides plenty of shade and encourages passive airflow throughout the space. We want the sweetgrass basket artists to feel comfortable while working, and we also want the space to be flexible enough for the conservancy to host events.

Kaden has been focusing on putting together the budget for our project.  It’s been helpful to think beyond just the design and consider the financial side of things, since that’s such a big part of making a project actually happen.

We’re also working on building a physical model that’s due on Wednesday. The model will help us better communicate our design ideas and show how the boardwalk, stands, and roof structure all come together. It’s exciting to see the project move from sketches and drawings into something more tangible that people can physically see and understand.

As our design continues to develop, we’re excited to see how everything comes together and how our ideas evolve in the final stages!!
