Design work has officially commenced in Studio V! Today, the class had a discussion recapping our client meeting from last week and the two site strategies that will be explored moving forward — “In the play area” and “between the play area and baseball”. The class was randomly split into these two groups, and as we start thinking about our individual designs we’ll begin to explore variations of ideas related to these main drivers. In the next week before our design review, every person will work to come up with their own design, showing one concept each that will be presented to the city.

I was placed into the group looking at a structure between the playground and baseball field. On the first day of design, I focused on starting to create a narrative around what I want the structure to achieve, and how it will interact with all of the park elements. I’ve started to diagram some initial ideas, and will continue to develop them until they turn into one solid concept by the end of the week!
