I’m here to introduce to you the…Indigo Vat Shack!
Inspired by South Carolina’s historic production of indigo, which was once upon a time one of our great state’s biggest exports, artists in Charleston have taken to creating art with this lovely bluish-purple plant.

Here at the CAC.C, Studio V had a busy start this semester meeting with Rachel Parris at Enough Pie and local architect, Kevan Hoertdoerfer, to get a strong foundation in what the project entails. We are in the research phase at the moment, trying to find out about indigo, the history of it, the dying process, as much as possible that could aid us in our attempt to push this project as far as it can go.
The Indigo Vat Shack will serve the community, educating on all things indigo and provide the Charleston area with an artistic outlet that will create a strong bond from within through the incredible experience that is the indigo dying process.
In the coming blog posts you will get to know the entire process that is involved with creating the unique piece of architecture that is the Indigo Vat Shack, and get to know the students that will be putting their heart and soul into all things indigo this semester.
We can’t wait to share it with you.
