This past weekend we have been focusing on our individual designs for our pin-up this Tuesday. A few of us spent all weekend in the studio, narrowing down our presentation boards and models. Our boards will be composed of a site plan, diagrams, perspective views, sections and precedent images to tell the story of our narrative and design!
My design focuses mainly on the pavilion-playground interaction. I had to make a lot of progress over the weekend because I had been stuck design-wise this past week. The design draws a lot of inspiration from the kite, a classic children’s toy. The angularity of its shape provides 4 triangle options which informs the roof shape. I wanted my design to reflect the interactive nature of a kite as well allowing the angular roofs to step down into the playground so that it becomes part of the playscape.
Furthering its playfulness, colored plexi glass is vertically positioned between the stepping roofs. As sunlight filters through, it casts vibrant rays of color. The colors not only provide wayfinding between pavilion and play, they are reminiscent of traditional kite fabrics tying back to the original inspiration.
