Thursday, January 30th became a busy day for us at the CAC.C. The Clemson Architectural Foundation (CAF) came down to visit the city and take a walking tour. The master’s students of the Community Build certificate program were asked to meet the group at the Eric Cornelius Singleton II Park to represent the program and answer any questions the guests may have about what we do. I found this event particularly interesting, as David gave background of the pavilion the previous students had constructed. I was unaware of the future development happening around the park, and that this space may eventually become a social hub in Charleston’s future.

After the CAF members left the site, we held Community 1:1 class at Revelry Brewing Co., which was across the street from the Eric Cornelius Singleton II Park. As this class marked our first meeting of the C1:1 book club, we thought meeting at a brewery would be a nice kickoff to the semester. We broke into small groups to discuss the first segment of the book, “The Speed of Trust” by Stephen M.R. Covey. The group’s consensus of the book seemed to be fairly negative, but we all had a blast getting out of the cigar factory for a while and discussing this book.

Class dismissed for the evening at 5:30, and students were invited to a social gathering with the CAF, hosted by Synchronicity Land + Architecture. Many students were able to make an appearance, but a few of us were unable to go due to a studio review the following day. The rest of the night into the early hours of the morning were spent finalizing drawings, modeling, and preparing for class the next morning.
