Pitter Patter, lets get at er

Every day we are getting closer to breaking ground at Singleton. However, in the meantime we are doing everything we can to prefabricate our structural members so we can assemble things together on site and stay on track. While there is still a lot left to, we all feel confident that we are keeping on a great pace and can hit the ground running next week. While our timeline on when exactly we will break ground is a little unclear, we know the day is getting closer and closer.

After Peyton and I completed cutting down the 2” x 10” beams and the holes were drilled to match up with the columns, we moved onto the next task. Luckily after wrapping this up, the 6” x 6” columns were picked up and dropped off at the woodshop so we can get started on them right away. Before cutting or drilling into any of the columns we wanted to ensure that the columns were not damaged, unfortunately two of them were and we must get them replaced. After that we created, we referred to the cut lists provided by the CD set for the dimensions the 6” x 6” columns were to be cut to and where the holes were to be drilled into. Like how the 2” x 10” process was, we are making jigs as to where the holes need to be drilled into, to ensure consistency throughout our structure.

Outside of our studio class, there are other exciting things developing. Everyone in our ITC course is making a big push with our initial designs so we can soon hit the ground running and setting up our formwork. For our final project, we have a lot of opportunities to be creative and different from our previous ITC project. While we still have to keep our design within reason considering the amount of time left in the semester, we are still able to push the boundaries just a bit. Moving on from ITC, we are travelling to Savannah this coming Monday for our History and Theory course with Professor Watson.

Also, allow me to take the opportunity to wish a happy birthday to David Pastre and Mimi Rose! Woot Woot!! Live it up!
