Organized Chaos

With the shop now in order and the bulk of the formwork complete, the Community Build Studio is ready to take on some of the prefabrication of the framing elements. While David continues to make the necessary arrangements for our permitting and subsequent groundbreaking, the framing members will start to be cut and organized to take out to site once ready. Monday afternoon the majority of the class worked to unload the 2×10’s that will be used for the framing of both the large and small pavilions.

Simultaneously, other students worked on the shop drawings for preparing to cut these framing members down and prepare them for when we are able to get on site. As shown here, the shop drawings specify exactly to what lengths the 2×10’s will need to be cut, as well as the precise locations of where they will get bolted to meet the other framing members. These thought out decisions and drawings produced ahead of time will help expedite the fabrication both down in the shop and eventually on site.

In other news, having wrapped up the stair/vase projects, the Intro to Craft class has begun their final project of the semester – lights! These fixtures can be floor lights, table lamps, sconces, etc. Students jumped right into design after receiving the project brief yesterday afternoon. After learning some valuable lessons from the previous project, it can be expected to see some stellar lights come to fruition in the next month.
