It’s show time!!

It is research presentation day! Today, we travel as a studio to Wadmalaw to present our research to Edith L. Frierson Elementary School students and teachers. The presentation will showcase what our team has learned through precedent studies as well as show what we know about Wadmalaw and its community. Not only will we be presenting our research that will guide our design for the pavilion today, but we also will be interacting with the students and introducing them to the world of architecture. We will be building a simple structure with the students to show them the basics of standing four walls together to create a room. The structure will be left behind at the school to host the presentation boards we created to display the research pertaining to the project. This will give a chance for the students and teachers to observe the information throughout the week and have many discussions about the design and what they want built for their school. Also, we will be leaving behind lesson plans to engage the students even more with the design of the pavilion. The lesson plans we created will get the fire started with the students and help them begin to think in an architectural way. A little about Edith L. Frierson Elementary School, they transitioned from a traditional public elementary school to Montessori education in 2018. They currently have three primary Montessori classrooms (serving 3-, 4-, and 5-year olds), and three Lower Elementary classrooms, serving 1st-3rd grade.  In addition to their Montessori options, Edith L. Frierson Elementary serves non-Montessori classes in grades 4-5. Their mission is to develop confident life-long learners who are competent, responsible, and self-motivated by providing a safe environment where parents and teachers support children as they explore an integrated, culturally diverse, and innovative curriculum that fosters critical thinking and creativity. We are so excited to work with this school and their educators to help grow young learners and introduce them to the profession of architecture!
