Now that we have finished “spring cleaning” at Corrine Jones and Magnolia Gardens, it’s time to start on our project!
This semester we will be working with the Charleston Park Conservancy to improve the West Ashley Greenway. We met Leslie Wade, James Martin, Kayla Huff, and Meg Moore of the Charleston Park Conservancy via Zoom on Friday. We introduced ourselves and learned more about our semester-long project.
The main topic we discussed was the challenge of engaging with the community and understanding what they want to see improved or added to the Greenway. The four members of the Charleston Park Conservancy informed us that they desire to gather feedback from the portion of the community that they do not usually hear from. One idea was to have signage along the Greenway with a QR Code about a community Zoom meeting, this would provide an opportunity for more voices and ideas to be heard from the community.
We finished the class by splitting up into groups and discussing ways to spread the word about the meeting and how to get the community involved in the Greenway project.
