Meeting all of the needs and wants of clients, compromising, time constraints, financial limitation, due dates; these represent an unfavorably sloped hill. Coming up with a structure or landscape design that is fitting for your site, is the large boulder in that the designer pushes up the steep hill. The designer is Sisyphus. Despite things seeming like they are set up for the designer to fail, the designer must continue to push and keep his/her composure.
After reviews with our client on Monday and Tuesday, our studio’s morality is what you would expect after seemingly taking took two steps backward after taking a step forward in the long week that preceded the reviews. It is easy to get down on ourselves and feel sorry for ourselves. But that would not be the right choice. The right choice would be to reboot, consider the client’s needs and wants, and hit this next step in the design process even harder than what we did before.
After a meeting on Wednesday afternoon, we spoke about our next steps moving forward. Starting this phase, we are attacking the roof shape and the roof material. Full scale mock-ups are being constructed for the structural engineer coming in to review this upcoming Monday. For the next few days we will all be cranking out iterations, study models, and finding case studies and precedents to guide us along throughout the design phase.
” Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.”
