Surprise of the Semester

It seems that the part of our project that was always on the back burner, the outdoor proposal for the Halsey window, will be the first thing that we complete and install.  We’ve cut, welded and ground all of the steel fins and are now beginning to slide them into the vertical structure one by one (from the top) so that we can weld them in place.  In order to make sure the fin spacing is exactly 4 1/2 inches and that the fins are in exactly the right place, we’ve made many wooden spacers, clamped custom wooden braces to the vertical members and measured a lot.  Upon completion the structure will fit into a 90 x 90 inch square and weigh about 1500 pounds – a challenging object to move.  We’ll be sure to let you know how we overcome that obstacle later this week.
