Today we finally got a draft construction document set off to John, our engineer for the project. The model has been completed and we’ve been wrapping up some finer details. Tyler and I have focused on refining the underlying deck structure and how multiple girders and joists connect at a single point. We may have to rethink the H-shaped composite columns (4×4 posts sandwiched between two 2x6s) to allow more “meat” for carriage bolts to pass through (see the detail below), possibly switching to 6×6 posts. We’ll see what creative solutions our engineer friend proposes!
