As spring break cleaning continues through the week, many of these past builds are looking great with their fresh touch ups! In addition to the handrails over at Forest Park, another group was in charge of repairing a loose joint at Enston Homes, as well as documenting some damage at Mulberry Park’s dock build.

This team was so speedy quick with the repair and are now just waiting for the city to respond to the documentation, which consisted of minor spray paint marks and some etching in the handrails.

Another group is working on ADA accessibility and a table design for the most recent build in Stephen Washington Park. After catching up on ADA codes for leaning posts and spending way to long looking for a leveler, we headed to the site to start measuring existing conditions and determining where a curb or bench extension needs to go. The build is really coming together but still needs some parts of the roof installed, which we will be milling and staining later this week and through the weekend.
Along with spring cleaning this week, the studio had their first joint session with the graduate historic preservation students. They shared the history and culture behind sweetgrass baskets within the Charleston area, which will influence the design for this semester’s project. Today, everyone will be going to check out the proposed site for the basket stands on Johns Island, as well as participating in an event hosted by Kiawah Conservancy, the non-profit we will be partnering with.
