Eat, Sleep, T&G

All weekend long, we were hard at work cranking out the tongue and groove for our roof! It kicked off Friday in the wood shop, where we started cutting the tongue pieces. By Saturday, we realized we needed to rerun all of them to make the tongues slightly smaller so they would fit smoothly into the grooves. Once that was done, we moved on to cutting the grooves and then ran all the pieces through the planner at the same time to make the face look super nice. Doing both steps at the same time saved us hours and made the whole process super efficient.

We got into a groove (pun intended) and managed to finish all the 2x6s in about 2 hours. On Sunday, we tackled the angled cuts. These are not necessary for the tongue and groove, but they add a nice touch so that each board stands out when you look up at the roof.

The tongue and groove has been my main focus throughout this part of the project other than the bench design. Over the past few weeks, Ive been working on the cut sheets, and because of our unique roof shape, there are 46 different cuts for the tongue and groove boards. Seeing everything come together was satisfying and its fun to things start to tun into something real!
