A majority of our studio is enrolled in a Field Studies course that focuses on observational sketching of local architecture. Throughout this course we have been producing a plethora of sketches within the downtown Charleston area, however this past Saturday the class changed up the scenery and took a trip to Middleton Inn by WG Clark.
During this trip we recorded details, floorplans, sections, elevations, and perspectives of the proportions and materiality.

These exercises have been beneficial in exercising our minds to be detail oriented when designing our current semester’s pavilion project. Thoughts of how and where materials meet, feelings of space from differences in height, and how the natural environment interacts with the architecture.
