A Week in Gulf Shores, AL

Spring break – it came and it went fast for all of us. Yet it was a much needed week of rest and relaxation that will fuel Studio V for the rest of the semester as we seek to finish these final five weeks with excellence. After all, the Spring 2025 crew has the unique task of constructing not one but two structures before May 1. The clock is ticking!

Over break, I had the privilege of traveling to Gulf Shores, Alabama with Campus Outreach, a Christian campus ministry I am involved with back in Clemson. In fact, this was my first time attending this annual CO event. And it was a highlight to say the least! It was so good to reconnect with such an incredible community, and the week was filled with lots of fun.

Most of my time was spent out by the beach or the pool. The sand was white and the water was quite clear. Surprisingly, the water wasn’t too cold to get in, and I was able to do some bodyboarding in the waves. During the week, I got to play two fantastic golf courses with some of my buddies- Lost Key Golf Club in Perdido Key, FL and Timber Creek Golf Club in Daphne, AL. Each course was a little different, each featuring signature holes that showcased the beauty of the course’s surrounding landscape. A few times, we visited a delicious donut shop called Parlor Doughnuts that had incredible coffee and even better donuts. For those that live in South Carolina, they have another shop in Pawleys Island, and I highly recommend checking it out!

My favorite part of the week were the nightly devotionals which took place after dinner. During these times, we studied John 10 in the Bible which talks about Jesus as our Good Shepherd. Lots of rich conversation took place during the evening devotionals. We all learned a lot about Jesus’ deep love and care for us, and some people even got introduced to the Gospel for the first time! In the past, God has used the Campus Outreach spring break retreat to do great things. Lifelong friendships have been established. Special memories have been made. People have given their lives to Jesus. And though this was the first time I have attended the trip, I have no doubt that this past week in Gulf Shores was no different.

As we all come back from spring break, I look forward to bringing the joy and hope I experienced in Gulf Shores back to Studio V as we approach the end of the semester!
