Today we had a guest visit the CAC.C! Liam’s high school friend, Devin, is visiting from Ottawa, Canada, for the week and became our guest for the afternoon. As a tax for our hospitality, we had him assist with staining a few of our column pieces for the Donor Wall down in the shop.
In Community 1:1, we all gathered together to share our current progress on our Non-Profit work. The emphasis of the exercise was to update everyone on what project we are assisting the organization with and express any difficulties. Each project has it’s own individuality and involve working with real people, so real issues can arise. Problems like lack of communication, funding freezes, and timeline shifts can throw off student’s schedules, which cause us to have to rearrange our plans on the fly. Each of us went around the circle to express these issues and brainstorm with David on how we can resolve these issues. At this point there is only 5 weeks left of the semester, so projects need to stay on track for us to find success within the class.
After Community 1:1, we all met down in the shop to continue progress on the construction of the columns for the Donor Wall. Today’s list was fairly short, as we are needing to finalize a few cuts on the 3×8’s before we can join the column pieces together. We spent a couple hours routing, sanding, and staining the pieces that were ready in preparation for Friday’s workday.
