Slipp Casting for ITC Class
Introduction to Craft, a class that focuses on material production and craftsmanship is exploring ceramics this semester. Techniques that were experimented with included slab, extrusion, and slip casting. My partner and I settle on slip casting to create a series of open-ended nesting forms that have potential as a facade, or in the Charleston are a wave attenuation device/ oyster bed substrate. Slip casting is involves pouring liquid clay (slip) into a mold that absorbs the moister causing a thin shell to form, when the rest of the slip is poured off to be re-used.
