This past Saturday was the 47th Cooper River Bridge Run, a 10k run starting in Mount Pleasant and finishing on King Street in downtown Charleston, crossing the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. I, along with 26,000 other participants, decided to tackle the 10K in style by “Getting Over It” (this years motto). In one weekend, the race generates roughly $33 million for the local community, from hospitality and tourism industries to small local businesses. The CRBR promotes Health and Wellness to improve the quality of health, as well as supports the Lowcountry through charity connections and grants.
People from all over the country came to compete with some impressive times, and some not so impressive times (my time will not be disclosed for my own sake, but I did break the 2 hour mark!). This was the second year in a row I had participated in the race. Last year I had done a little bit of running in the months leading up to it, however this year I did not, and I believe the last time I ran was last years race. Can’t you tell I love running?! That might have been the worse decision I could have made, as my body from the waist down has not fully recovered, and I have not remembered how to walk normal again. After the race, Marion Square turns into a well needed recovery area, offering free drinks and snacks, and most importantly (my favorite) watermelon!
