The Superior Sister City?

Good old Savannah, Georgia. Home to old live oak trees, steep stairs, cobblestone streets, and Forest Gump. We spent the day Wednesday exploring Savannah by foot. We started the day in groups wondering about and getting oriented with the city. Starting by the river, we walked up a set of stairs, and then up more stairs to dozens of community squares. Most all of these squares had thick canopies of oak trees generations old, benches littered with tourist (like myself) and locals enjoying their lunch break, and a monument of some kind in the center. Comparing the organized grid of Savannah to Charleston’s mess of one-way streets and narrow sidewalks definitely was a win for Savannah. Wide sidewalks, plenty of public spaces to relax, and a pedestrian-friendly environment were some of my first realizations after getting off the bus. Lunch consisted of pizza by the slice, some Cheerwine, and some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had (Thank you Raechel for the recommendations!!) In the latter half of the day, my favorite part was walking through the streets filled with historic row houses. The elevated entrances, historic details, abundant florals, and quaint-ness made staying in one of those homes find its way onto my bucket list.

All in all, Savannah is a beautiful city full of great architectural typologies, public space, and history but Charleston will always be the star in my eyes. But hopefully… we’ll be back soon Savannah!
