Precision Down to 3/32 of an Inch

This week we have been working full steam ahead on finalizing shop drawings and cutting and assembling formwork for the concrete pours in the pavilion. One of the most interesting things about having 15 people in the wood shop working on 1 form is coordination. In order to pull this off we need to come to an understanding of what  pieces are needed and where they fit in. The next challenge is craft and precision. We have to all learn a standard way to cut, measure, and assemble the pieces. There are even specific screws for each joint and a very particular way to join them. We have to be very precise in this critical moment of the project in order to make sure the concrete pour goes to plan. The formwork is like a puzzle; every piece needs to fit perfectly into place. Even the slightest wrong dimension or cut could make the puzzle fall apart. I am excited to see this all come together. I’m sure it will be very fulfilling and worth every re-cut.
