WHOO! WHOO!

This past week has kept us busy with nearing breaking ground on our next project at Singleton Park as well as our ITC projects. Our group was tasked to remove the signs from the existing “GrowFood Carolina” Garden. Currently there is a wall situated along Morrison dr. where the Meeting St. Academy used to have their classes involving a garden. Our upcoming build is the new pavilion which is replacing the existing garden with a closer location in proximity to the school. These walls have murals painted on them which we plan to remove and use for our project. We have started the removal of the 2 x 6 siding facing away from Morrison dr. to get a better look on the inside of the structure. There are three total sides to this structure, and we plan to remove and salvage the two short end murals. Our next step of the process is developing a strategy to remove the mural from the rest of the wall while keeping the pieces intact.

This week in ITC we have developed our stairs to the point where we can begin fabricating the formwork. Today we finalized our stair dimensions and assembled parts of our formwork to help us form our stringer and handrails. Our goal is to glue together our strips of veneer along our formwork and leave to dry for a couple days. After the pieces are dry, we are going to use the stair treads to connect both stair rails together and connect the handrails to the stair rails with pickets. All these components will be held together through two columns which the stair rail starts from and ends into.
