Question Everything?

Today is the day we meet with all of the stakeholders for our newest project located at Eric Cornelius Singleton II Park! Our project is aimed to be a student garden for Meeting St. Academy which is located adjacent to our site. On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to be joined by Barry Yoakum who mentored on the idea of “Visioning Charette”.

(Kevin Arnold and Mia Walker practicing for the charette meeting.)

Visioning Charette is a simple concept, here’s how to do it:

  1. Split into groups
  2. Play your part
  3. Map solutions
  4. Question Everything

As a class, we listed 7 stakeholders that will be important to the project. In teams of 2, we each played the role we were given. By putting ourselves in the perspective of a ‘community member’ or ‘a city official’ we were able to list the pros and cons of the schematics and location of the garden on the site.

While preparing for the charette it is ALWAYS important to question everything. If you don’t understand it, question it. If you do understand it, question it. Great projects stem from an abundance of questions, ideas, and opposing views.

Once complete, you should be able to convene as a group to discuss the results. These 4 tools of a visioning charette will help better prepare you for your next stakeholder meeting.
