All hands-on deck! There are many things on a job site that must be wrapped up before the holiday break can happen! One last caravan ride out to the site before we all can take a well-deserved rest. Even Pastre’s daughter came out to help in preparation. Belt line members, brackets, digging holes, setting columns, installing purlins, and cleaning up the site, all need to be set up to a good stopping point.
For some of the shop team members this is their first time on site since the concrete pour. Everyone was extremely excited to see all their hard work standing high! As excited as everyone is, the shop team is about seeing everything; it only motivates everyone to keep pushing forward. The semester is coming close to an end. Preparation for the next stage is getting all the storage components ready for installation. Stacked together is the framing for our storage units.
Once we all had a chance to see everything and to get unpacked the site team started to group up with members of the shop to tackle some of these items on our task list. Alex and Johnny were quick to get started on the roof. Cutting the purlins to be installed. After they had a few sets Amanda and Erin took over.
Shelton and Kyle put their muscles to work by digging a hole. One thing about this site is that the water table is very high, so it didn’t take long for them to start seeing water. These two had to get the column set for the beltline members to connect to. Mixing in some gravel to steady the column was a fun job.
Jerome, Jed and Lilly started on the beltline members. Drilling holes and installing steel brackets required a lot of upward motion. Holding the members steady while one drills is all fun and games until you take a wave of dust to the face. Once the members were all set up to the column, they connected the small and large pavilion.
One of the less glamorous jobs but necessary is cleaning the site. Sometimes it can be hard to work if stuff is in the way or in the wrong place. Cory and I helped by rearranging the horizontal steel members that would be installed in the next stage of this build after break. After we loaded up the used formwork into Pastre’s truck a clean space opened for the steel members. As the job progresses there are better locations opening that we can use that will help in installing different members and moving around the site. With the break we all will get the chance to rest our bodies and get caught up on anything we have been putting off. After this break its full speed ahead. Only two weeks left!
