Checking my Work

This week has been somewhat slow in that we are still waiting for our site conditions to dry from Hurricane Ian and our metal work has completed. We are trying to finish and perfect our shop drawings for the wood components so we can get an accurate count for the order and budget.

I won’t lie, shop drawings can be a little stressful. The storage panels I’m drafting and making cut sheets for will eventually be prefabricated in the shop and installed on site once the structure is assembled. The amount of tolerance for these panels to fit in the space between the columns at the ends of each pavilion is small, so it is imperative to draw to the correct dimensions, especially the width and diagonal pieces of the panels.

Redlines done by boss Amanda last week for the panel shop drawings.

Luckily, David has been red-lining my drawings and confirming the distance between the columns. I trust my material counts pretty well in terms of how many 2x4s we will need for the storage, but need confirmation on the cut distance of each piece of assembly.

David has recommended using 8′ 2x4s instead of 16′ for our cuts and material counts due to higher chances of warping in the 16′ beams, possibly wasting time in the shop. Therefore, I adjusted my material cuts and counts accordingly.

Changes in material count from 16′ 2x4s to 8′.

Hopefully, we will have lumber ordered by the end of the week and can start preparing our site for concrete pour in the near future.
