After the counts and shop drawings were made, we placed the order last week and the steel got delivered on Monday right before Studio. We moved all the 20’ long extruded steel plates into the shop(Our home for next 40 days). It took almost an hour to get the assembly line prepared for Non- stop production. We did make a good assembly line. The assembly line consists of a cutting crew and grinding crew. Myself and Johnny worked in the band saw to cut all the 4”x1/4” steel for the gusset plates in the structure. Every plate has to be accurate to avoid discrepancies later. We punched the holes on the plates and passed it to the next stage in the assembly line which is the grinding crew. Andrew, Seth, and Nick grinded the plates and got it ready for it to be welded.
While the metal room is busy with continuous cutting and grinding, students on the other side of the shop worked on making the changes and created new shop drawings for trellis. Cutting, PUNCHING, Grinding and hopefully Welding will be continued today..
