As we continue to hone our skills in the shop, cutting, grinding, and welding, we are also continuing to do work else where. First off digitally. We started doing our shop drawings the week before break and have been continually working on them. Refining them, adding changes, and stream lining them. This will ensure that during the build process we will be as efficient as possible with out wasting time or material trying to fix any mistakes.
As we wrap up the week, we have finished our shop drawings for a mock-up of a part of the trellis. Material will be starting to come in by the end of the week so that during class Friday and throughout the weekend so we can fabricate and assemble it.
Mock-ups are essential to the design build process because it is an intermediate step that is beneficial in many ways. It allows you to comprehend and resolve issues that may come up that may not have been thought about during the initial design. While we build our mock-up we take notes on any processes that can be streamlined during construction to help us become more efficient. That can be setting up a jig for pieces that are similar, alternating steps in the assembly procedure, and so on and so forth. As we grow closer to construction, the amount of time we spend prepping will help ensure that it will be seamless.
