Next Steps

After completing the site visit at Edith L. Frierson Elementary School, the team made their thirty-minute drive, full of ideas and thoughts, back to the Cigar Factory. Once everyone made it back to studio, the floor was open for discussion on what the next steps for this project should be. We started compiling a list of research topics that we thought would help us and the clients further understand the site context and design aspects. With a list of thirteen topics and a few side jobs, the team began to assign three to four people to each research topic. The Community Build Studio then tried to figure out the timeline on which we would complete these research concepts and finish some spring cleaning. Coming to an agreement, the team decided that Wednesday would be a perfect day to complete Medway Park and Forrest Park, but also include a thirty-minute conversation on what we gathered from research. The crew put in a decent amount of work in the previous weeks painting at Medway Park, and sanding applying varnish at Forrest Park. Due to cold weather conditions, we were delayed and could not proceed. Finally receiving nicer weather, the team plans to split back up to tackle on the final stages at these sites. We expect to finish painting the other half of the structure at Medway Park, and apply a second coat of varnish to the railings at Forrest Park.
