BAMBOOzled

Today we hit the ground running by meeting with the structural engineer, John.  From this meeting we learned that we needed to beef up the foundation of our structure a little bit and got a pretty understanding of what this portion of the design will entail. In addition, we came up with some ideas as to how we are going to tackle the railing system.

During this meeting we also hashed out multiple new structural design ideas for the pavilion portion of the project. These ideas took inspiration from a building comprised of a bamboo structure in Bali. We feel as though we can create a design similar to this that will provide structural support for our pavilion and create this feeling of a tree that we have been trying to maintain. Below you can get an idea of the direction we are hoping to head in with our design. From now till Friday our goal is to create CDs for the decking and foundation portions of our project and get a better understanding and further iterate this new concept we have for our structure as well as railing. There is still a lot to be done especially now that we have decided to go in a different direction just two days before we were originally planning on finishing all our CDs. This week is our last week till spring break and most importantly the last week we are spending till we finally begin to build and bring our project to life.  Stay tuned for Friday’s class and the direction we head in with the pavilion’s structure.
