Today’s topic fits in perfectly with the weather outside today. Along with finalizing form and site layout ideas, Roberto and I have been digging deep into research. I have specifically been working on rainwater collection and what ways we can integrate this aspect into our final design. I began doing my own research on rainwater harvesting, but was then directed to get in contact with Kim Counts, who is a part of the Clemson Extension, and J.T. Pennington, a former Clemson and Design/Build student. These two individuals have a wealth of information on rainwater collection and what aspects we should be considering as we design.
Some of the main pieces to designing a successful rainwater collection system are making the right choices on roof materials, gutter and downspout designs, sizing of storage tanks, and other International Codes that deal with rainwater collection.
Today at 2 p.m. I will be making a phone call with Kim Counts to find out more information so that we have a well-thought out design that incorporates a rainwater collection system to present at our Final Design Review February 25th, 2019.
Stay tuned!
